Grades 1-5 (ABRSM)

ABRSM
Grade 1 introduces the basics of music notation, including the stave, clefs, and simple note values. Students learn time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4), basic key signatures (C, G, and F major), and simple dynamics like p and f. The focus is on reading, writing, and understanding very simple musical elements.

ABRSM
Grade 2 expands on Grade 1 with more key signatures (up to two sharps or flats) and introduces compound time like 6/8. Students learn dotted notes, ties, slurs, and articulation marks such as staccato. It builds confidence in interpreting and writing more complex rhythms and melodies.

ABRSM
Grade 3 includes key signatures up to four sharps/flats and introduces minor scales. Students learn about tonic triads, triplets, and simple transposition. It deepens understanding of musical form, rhythm, and harmony.

ABRSM
Grade 4-5 introduces cadences, musical texture, and more advanced transposition. Key signatures now include up to five sharps/flats, with a focus on both harmonic and melodic minor scales. Students analyze form, recognize chords, and explore more refined musical terminology.
